Elstow South Quarry Restoration – Consultation Event

17th March 2022 10:00 - 16:00

21-03307-ROMWM - Restoration Of Elstow Quarry South Site Location Plan

A public consultation event will be hosted by FCC Environment about the planning application to restore the quarries just north of Wixams: https://goo.gl/maps/1Eg9J7fsPoc8pj7TA

Details about the application from FCC

Although used for clay extraction between 1949 and 1979, the FCC Environment-owned site has been unused over the last 40 years and is now made up of flooded ‘lakes’ made up of voids from historic quarrying activity.

FCC Environment recognises the potential to deliver a comprehensive restoration of the site. This will deliver a rich new landscape including species-rich grassland and native woodland, as well as retaining all existing trees on site.

To deliver this, we are removing water that currently lies within the two existing ‘lakes’ which have formed from the historic quarrying. These will then be infilled with suitable materials including soils and similar inert materials. We also propose creating a temporary office, along with associated infrastructure, on the site to safely oversee the delivery of the project.

You are invited to attend a public event which will be staffed by members of the project team to learn more about our plans and ask any questions you may have. Details of the event can be found below:
