The September Sunday Super Sausage Shindig

Oscar is a three year old from Wixams who suffered a Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) event at birth. He is living with Cerebral Palsy and needs help to get an operation and intensive rehab which would change his life. You can read Oscar’s story and make a donation here: just4children.org/operationoscarbear

This summer a few motorcyclists from Wixams got together when they heard about Oscar’s plight and his parents’ campaign to raise money for his operation. Bikers will find any excuse to get out on two wheels so, with the potential of raising some money for charity too, they decided to run a charity ride-out and The September Sunday Super Sausage Shindig was born!

On Sunday 3rd September 2023 around 40 bikers turned up to Seasons garden centre to take part in the ride-out to the Super Sausage Café on the A5 on the way to Towcester. Attendees came from all over including Bedford, Northampton, Milton Keynes and Huntingdon. Riders were asked to donate £10 to take part in the ride-out which would all go to Oscar’s fund.

Little Oscar and his family came along too so everyone had a chance to meet the star of the day, and Oscar even got to sit on one of the biggest bikes there, Adam’s Kawasaki GTR 1400. He got a real thrill out of hearing and feeling the big engine revving beneath him, a future biker in the making?

Before leaving the bikers were gathered together for a group shot and then the bikes left to make their way to the Super Sausage for brunch and a brew. The convoy, with 40 bikes adorned with stickers and flags, must have turned some heads as they made their way through north Beds and into Bucks. They arrived at the café all safe and sound, closely followed by Oscar and his family who let everyone know that the event raised £687! It was more than anyone expected and certainly brought a lot of smiles for a job well done.

The Wixams Bikers would like to thank Seasons for allowing the group to use their car park, and everyone who took part and helped with organising this event, for helping raise so much money for Oscar, and for helping create such a great day for all. The bike group are already talking about running a similar event next year for a different charity!

Below are some fantastic shots taken by the brilliant Asan (Tu Plus Tu Photography tuandtu.com) and further down are some shots and a video taken from a bridge on the A509 near Newport Pagnell.

If you’d like to join the Wixams bike group, they meet on the first Sunday of the month at Season garden centre from 11. The bikers also have a WhatsApp group and meet regularly for ride-outs such as to Brewpoint and Oakley bike club.
